“Not a whit, we defy augury: there’s a special
providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now,
’tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be
now; if it be not now, yet it will come: the
readiness is all: since no man has aught of what he
leaves, what is’t to leave betimes?”
Every time I read this quote, I get reminded of how in control God is. I can’t help but admire Hamlet’s acceptance of a divine will that shapes his life.
The challenge? To trust God entirely. Whilst it may seem like nothing happens, or that our faith is pointless, Malachi 3:17-18 says God will restore justice, and reward those who are faithful to him. God is in control. There’s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life
