The Australian anthem;
“For those who’ve come across the seas, we’ve boundless plains to share”
So what’s going to change; the anthem or the attitude. I’m sure most people would object to the anthem being;
“For those who’ve come across the seas, we’ve overcrowded detention centres and long processing times because we don’t want them on our boundless plains”
But we should object just as much to the anthem, which is a symbol of our national identity, being at odds with the reality. So are we going to fix the disjuncture, or just let our nation cruise along in hypocrisy and indifference?
